Advanced Diploma of Project Management


The Advanced Diploma is for those who:

  • Supervise others who develop project management plans
  • Delegate responsibility for the achievement of project objective to others
  • Receive reports from several project managers
  • Monitor and review a number of projects against business or corporate objectives

This qualification would suit those who are managing large or complex projects, a program of projects or a portfolio of projects. Participants will probably have a number of project/ component managers reporting to them and may be managing the selection of projects at the same time.  It is also suited to those who may be undertaking a ‘Sponsor’s Representative’ role.

The Advanced Diploma builds on the fundamentals of project management and cuts across the areas of business, portfolio, program and project management so that the appropriate knowledge can be applied to the role or roles that you make take in your organisation.

Candidature 18 months
Study Workload: 300 hours including time spent preparing and detailing assessment tasks. You can complete your Advanced Diploma within a 25 week period at 10-12 hours per week. .
Entry Requirements:

Participants should be currently working in a senior management environment or be intending to, and have access to a range of work-based projects/programs at the Program Manager level.

Employability Skills: Employability Skills for each qualification have been determined by the Department of Education, Employment and Workforce Relations (DEEWR). These are the recommended skills identified to gain employment, establish an enterprise, for career progression, to expand employment capability and to achieve individual potential and contribute to organisational strategic outcomes. Training Packages have been reviewed to ensure that Employability Skills feature in their units of competency.

Assessment:

Submission of an Assessment Record Book (ARB) together with supporting evidence of the participant’s application of skills and knowledge against the nationally recognised competency standards for project management at AQF6.
Throughout the assessment process participants will develop a complete program management plan, and demonstrate underpinning knowledge.

SKILLS OUTCOME

Graduates of the Advanced Diploma of Project Management will be able to guide a range of project operations towards the achievement of strategic business objectives through their ability to:

  • Integrate a number of projects to achieve planned business outcomes and value enhancements
  • Ensure there is effective governance and sponsorship in place to facilitate the conversion of business strategy into the realisation of benefits
  • Plan the selection and development of staff to meet the requirements of a significant program of works
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive quality system
  • Develop and monitor program budgets to meet the organisation’s business plan
  • Provide leadership in the identification, assessment and management of risk
  • Ensure effective communication between the various stakeholders in the program of works

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Given that some participants may already be able to demonstrate their competence in some units, a recognition of prior learning assessment process is available to acknowledge skills and knowledge that may have been gained through formal and informal training and/or learning, work experience and life experience.
